A milestone table, a contract list or a review schedule is much easier to read when the dates color themselves: red once a date has passed, amber when it is coming up within a month, green when there is still time. Native Confluence tables cannot do this, and recoloring cells by hand every week is exactly the kind of chore that gets forgotten. CelesteCS Conditions for Confluence colors the cells automatically every time the page is viewed.

Works on Confluence Cloud and Data Center. On Cloud insert CelesteCS Conditional Rules Manager Cloud and Conditional Rule Cloud.

1. The rules

Wrap the table in a Conditional Rules Manager macro and add three Conditional Rule macros inside it, all with Applies to set to the date column (here Table1.C:C):

The rules are applied in order and a later rule overrides an earlier one, so every date starts green, the next 30 days turn amber and past dates turn red. Change 30 to whatever warning period you need; Element date is in the next N working days skips weekends, and Element date is overdue by more than N days lets you add a stronger color for dates that are long overdue.

2. Optional: a "days left" column

A CelesteCS Math formula in the next column shows the number itself: DAYS(DATEVALUE(Table1.C2), NOW()) in row 2, Table1.C3 in row 3, and so on. Negative values are days since the date passed.

Good to know

• Dates inserted with the Confluence date picker and dates typed as YYYY-MM-DD (for example 2026-11-05) are recognised.
• Use Affected elements to color the whole row instead of only the date cell.
