This page explains how to move CelesteCS Math for Confluence from Confluence Data Center to Confluence Cloud and what to check after the migration.

Before you start

CelesteCS Math does not store any data of its own: there are no app settings and no app database tables to migrate. All formulas and charts live in the page content itself, in the macros and their parameters. When you migrate a space with the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant, the Math macros are migrated together with the pages.

The Data Center and Cloud versions of the app use the same app key. CelesteCS Math for Confluence Cloud recognizes the macros of migrated pages, so they keep working without any changes to the pages.

Migration steps

  1. Install CelesteCS Math for Confluence Cloud on your Cloud site from the Atlassian Marketplace. Install it before you open the migrated pages, otherwise Confluence shows the macros as unknown. If your formulas use Jira functions, make sure the app is also installed on your Jira Cloud site.
  2. Migrate your spaces with the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant as usual. No app data migration is required for CelesteCS Math.
  3. Open several pages with formulas and charts and check that the results are the same as in Data Center.

What is migrated automatically

  • Both macros: Numerical Expression and Chart, with all their parameters.
  • Formulas over tables on the same page, in the macro body or on another page, including tables formatted by CelesteCS Conditions (requires CelesteCS Conditions for Confluence Cloud).
  • Charts built from table data.
  • Parameters of pages created with early Math versions, such as the old decimal symbol values and the number of decimal places.

Differences between Data Center and Cloud

  • All functions available in Data Center are available in Cloud.
  • Jira functions (JIRAISSUECOUNT, JIRAISSUEFIELDVALUES, JIRAISSUEFIELDVALUESBYFIELDID) use the Jira of your Atlassian Cloud site. An Application Link name given in a formula is ignored in Cloud, so formulas keep working without changes.
  • If a formula refers to another page by its page ID, update it after the migration: page IDs change when pages are migrated. References by space and page title keep working.
  • The Load macro dynamically option is available in Data Center only. In Cloud, formulas are always calculated when the page is displayed.
  • Pages created with very old Math versions that use the hidden backward compatibility mode for formulas over other macros in the macro body may calculate differently in Cloud. Re-check such formulas after the migration.
  • Migrated macros keep their Data Center names. In the Cloud macro browser you will see the Cloud versions of the macros. Both work the same way, and migrated macros can be edited as usual.
